Dear residents of the Bröbberow community,
Dear friends of our community,

As always in December, I would like to look back together with you and you on what we achieved last year for our community and focus on new tasks and goals.
The major challenge in 2022 was the extensive completion of the fire brigade construction in Groß Grenz. The enormous shortage and increase in the cost of building materials as well as craft services led to a number of delays in the construction process. Nevertheless, we can now see that the effort involved in carrying out many work independently and with voluntary support has paid off. In the end, the planned funds were even enough to purchase a crew transport car for the volunteer fire brigade, which was transferred to Groß Grenz in December.
The largest post in the municipal budget for 2022 was the extension of the access road to the municipality from the street L13. The work had become necessary due to numerous cracks in the asphalt as well as damage in the area of the roadsides. As part of the construction work, the road was widened by 1.20m and can now easily guarantee encounter traffic. For the planned construction phase in the inner city, more precisely the expansion of the main road in Bröbberow with sidewalk and honeycomb grid plates, there was not a single provider in the public tender for the service, so that this work had to be postponed at first. However, the objective for the future will continue to be to create improved conditions for pedestrians in urban areas as quickly as possible.
Pedestrians and walkers are also targeted at the construction of benches and residential facilities completed in November. The municipality had sought funding for this for several years and was selected this year by the Local Action Group of the “LEADER” region “Baltic Sea DBR” for the implementation of the project from the regional budget for small projects. At 23 different locations throughout the municipality, there is now the opportunity to rest and, in most cases, have a look over the wide landscape and our home community. Maybe every bank can be explored during a bike tour in spring? Map material can also be provided to interested parties.
In addition to the joy of everything achieved, our view also applies to future tasks and current challenges. When I pointed out in my last year’s review that energy and environmental issues will be core issues for us as a community as well as society in general in the coming years, this sentence has once again gained a whole new significance this year.
With a view to preparing possible emergencies in connection with gas shortages and/or large-scale power outages, the municipal administration works closely with the relevant authorities of the district of Rostock. The municipalities are encouraged to offer contact points for the population in crisis situations that are easily accessible on foot and are supplied with emergency power, as well as providing information and communication possibilities. Municipal buildings should also act as heat islands for the population in an emergency. Our municipal buildings have been equipped with heat pumps for many years and can be heated independently of gas supplies. The firehouse in Groß Grenz was selected as the starting point for a crisis situation in the municipality of Bröbberow. Let us hope together that we will not be able to make use of this emergency infrastructure. Also take precautions as part of the general instructions in the private sector and always keep an eye on your fellow human beings. Let us see ourselves as a community and take advantage of the benefits of village life.
Last but not least, the information that the municipality as only one shareholder founded the non-profit GmbH “Biberburg Bröbberow” (BBB gGmbH) shortly before the end of the year. This becomes the 01.01.2023 carrier of the “An der Beke” Kindergarten in Groß Grenz. In the future, BBB gGmbH will also pursue and facilitate further objectives of municipal development and community coexistence.
As always, I appeal to all residents of the community to get involved and actively shape their living environment. Be it in the context of the association work, as a member of the volunteer fire department, when planting hedges or thinking in new directions. Our small community needs many helpful hands and smart minds to meet the demands of the future. I would like to thank the community officials, municipal representatives and committee members for their commitment, reliability, and mutual trust.

Due to the fact that our community belongs to the Schwaan office, the only former »artists' colony in Mecklenburg, our ideas about the careful economic and tourist development in the area of ​​the Beketal (tributary of the Warnow near Rostock) are very important to us.
The district of Groß Grenz was painted several times by the artists of the artists' colony because of the historical buildings and the »church from the 14th century. The sensitive restorations, the thatched Low German hall house with ancillary building (17th century), the »old dairy, the former village school, the old syringe house (all 19th century), the customs house (18th century) as a residential building and of course ours The community center are important milestones in village renewal for our community.

The multitude of well-preserved and interesting farms in small and large Grenz always invites you to take an interesting walk. The redesign of the former »manor complex in Bröbberow is a priority task for the coming years.
The new fire brigade building is available to the fire fighters, the “Kiek In” cultural association and the residents of the community for public life.
The community is located directly on the "Europe - Copenhagen - Berlin Cycle Route", which is very popular. Should our beautiful landscape invite one or the other cyclist to a longer stay - no problem - we have various accommodations and »holiday apartments on offer.
In the municipality of Bröbberow, great importance is attached to the restoration and sensitive maintenance of the village ponds, field hedges, avenues, wetlands, the Beke river valley and the »Sölle. They are supposed to create natural habitats and improve the quality of life of the residents. A main focus of the community work is the constant development of green in the form of trees, hedges and micro-biotopes.
Alternative energies are used in the form of geothermal systems in all public buildings and in several private households. Photovoltaic systems are also on the advance and are receiving positive attention
The municipality of Bröbberow is 15 km and 20 minutes by car south of Rostock, 7 km from the BAB 20 (Baltic Sea motorway Hamburg - Stettin), 14 km from the BAB 19 (Berlin - Rostock-Überseehafen) and 20 km to the west Rostock-Laage Airport.
Since we rely on long-term sustainable concepts, the entire road and path network has been renovated in recent years as part of a land consolidation process. Our local companies can quickly reach the cities of Rostock, Berlin and Hamburg, and our residents and guests are at the sea in 25 minutes.
Good shopping and dining options are only 4 km away in the town of Schwaan, as are the S-Bahn to Rostock or Güstrow, the school, the town hall, a sports hall and a boat landing stage on the Warnow.

In the district of Groß Grenz, a sport, game and festival area was built or renovated. The community center with the »kindergarten for 99 places was opened on June 1, 2005. It also offers space for community events and for young people, seniors, sports groups or similar initiatives.
The municipality of Bröbberow has been redeveloped in essential areas in recent years and has changed its image very pleasantly. In future, however, more efforts must be made to ensure the performance of the community. Here ideas and activities are needed that go beyond what is currently available. The development of the last few years has shown us that, on the one hand, financial resources were very important in order to make up the gap of decades, but that the social commitment of the people in your environment is indispensable.
